Halifax Youth and Recreation Department is a town Department that is dedicated to maintaining sports fields, play parks, shared responsibility for care and maintenance of the Halifax Elementary School Gymnasium with Halifax Elementary School, and to provide fun, safe, and (when possible) educational programs for the community's children, as well as, community events for people of all ages to enjoy.

For over 20 years the Halifax Youth and Recreation Department has hosted the Annual Eggstravaganzaa during springtime and participates in the Holidays in Halifax Town Stroll during the winter holiday season, In addition to hosting free community events, the Halifax Youth and Recreation Department has offered to the school children of Halifax multiple afterschool programs and (we are proud to say) at a low cost (hasn't had a price increase ever and we have been offering them for over 10 years!). The Department has held Vacation Camps and Gymnasium Dance (grades 5-7) to not only Halifax students, but also to students in the Kingston, Pembroke, and Plympton towns.

We can't forget that (the past few years but mostly) 2019 was a big year for the town of Halifax: we got a new playground! The Friends of Hops (a group of Halifax Citizens) who not only volunteered countless hours of their time but worked tirelessly alongside HYRD and other Town Departments, to fundraise, submit grants, and BUILD a safe and much needed HOPS Playground. Our town and the people in it are incredible-Thank you Friends of Hops!

Alongside our Community, HYRD strives to make our community a better one for our Children as they are the future!

DR.SEUSS DAY HES

Mr. Steele, the HYRD Director visited Halifax Elementary School for Dr. Seuss Days! He was invited to read a Dr. Seuss book to the 6th graders and the kids LOVED it! Thanks Mr. Steele for making Dr. Seuss Days memorable for everyone and thank you to HES 6th Graders for inviting him!

HYRD EGGSTRAVAGANZAA

For over 20 years the HYRD has hosted the Eggstravaganzaa. This is a free event for the community to attend during the Spring. The day is jam packed with all kinds of activities like age specific egg hunts, moon walks, glitter tattoos, face painting, raffles, music, and the Holiday Bunny always spends the time with us hopping around and posing for photos. Its held rain or shine!!!

                              HOLIDAYS IN HALIFAX

Every year, the Halifax Youth and Recreation Department partakes in another free event to our towns people: the Holidays in Halifax Holiday Stroll by setting up our activities and entertainment in the Halifax Elementary School Gymnasium. We are privileged that we get to be part of an event that brings so much happiness to so many people!  Mr. Steele is also asked every year to perform the annual reading of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" by Clement C. Moore. This is hosted by The Holmes Public Library Librarians in Halifax, MA. Thank you to all of the Sponsors, Vendors, and People who help to make this event happen. It takes a Village and we are happy to be part of it! (photos and video below)

AFTER SCHOOL

Photos of the Halifax Youth and Recreation Department's Afterschool Programs. Every year and all year long the HYRD offers different afterschool programs at a low cost to elementary students in the town of Halifax. The types of programs along with their session dates can differ year to year BUT the session price has not increased for over 10 years. Afterschool Programs are ran by HES Teachers and HYRD Staff from the end of the school until roughly 4:30pm.

HYRD DANCES

HYRD has entertained elementary and junior high school students for years by throwing gym dances. HYRD has two different dances: 5th and 6th grade and 6th and 7th grade throughout the entire school year. All dances are Chaperoned by a combination of corried and first aid-trained Teachers and HYRD staff.
